I've never been a sit-down player. As a kid, I was playing in garage bands -- who sits down to do that? In fact, I played cheesy organ, and even cheesy organ players stood up! (Paul Revere?, Question Mark?, Alan Price? Ok, maybe Ray Manzarek...)
So when I switched to guitar, it was stand-up all the way. (makes it easier to dodge decaying vegetables being thrown in my direction...)
Then, I got married - like 45 years ago - and got fatter & fatter, until I hit 300lbs and started having back problems. Sitting down sounded like a good idea, but I couldn't! The guitar was already being pushed out away from my body by belly fat, and it woulda been even worse if I tried to sit & play, since I basically had no lap.
In recent years, I've cleaned up my act and now weigh 180 lbs. But I still have difficulty playing while sitting down, after all these years of standing. I tried it this past Tuesday night at practice with the guys. It felt weird and affected my playing, which needs all the help it can get. Probably worth the effort to adjust to it, though, as the back issue does cause pain after a long practice...
I have a couple of armless, stool-height, adjustable padded office chairs that work pretty well for that purpose. So that'll be my final answer, Regis...
