Used to think that Martin guitars were unsurpassed for production instruments. Not so anymore!! Taylor is the king nowadays!!

Welcome! I think Martin has earned its spot in the respected builders category, but IMHO, Taylor has been quite impressive in 41 short years. Considering everything (tone, beauty, feel, company values, etc), I am partial to the Taylors. Hence my screen name.  ;)

Welcome dotneck!

As a fellow convert who has owned 8 or 9 Martins in the past, I have found that Taylor caters more to the modern playing style, while Martins continue to pay tribute to honored past tradition. They're both great guitars - I just happen to prefer Taylors since 1997.
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

Welcome to the forum dotneck335.  I to love the fit finish and tone of Taylor, and own many Taylor guitars, the taylor to Martin ratio is very lop sided towards Taylor.   I still enjoy playing my Martin M-36.

I grew up in a family where "blue" met "grass" so Martin was the only guitar brand worth considering.  At one point, I had four of them.  After getting my first Taylor in 2001 (the 414ce) all the Martin's started drifting away, in favor of Taylor playbility.  The only Martin that is still here is the custom shop J-40 - but it is on the bubble too, if someone makes me the right offer.  It just sounds so darn good....    :D

Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby

Hi dotneck335. Welcome to the UTGF. Your screen name brings to mind a Gibson ES-335. Good to have you here. Enjoy.
