Hello All,
Looking at some of the names used on the forum got me wondering what they mean and or where they come from. Some are pretty straight forward but others are not. This thread is an opportunity to learn what's behind some of the UTGF names and to post your info if you would like. So...
I have used my UTGF name for some time. Three of the letters in Epic are my initials (in order of my first, middle and last names), adding the forth letter made the word, which I think is cool. Audio is just what I do.

Mine is self-explanatory. Boring, huh?! ::)
But, since I only have Taylor's now in my life, it only makes sense.

When I used to play professionally back in N.Y., many audiences seemed enthralled with my energetic strumming style. Someone once called me a "strumming fool", and the name stuck...that's it!
-
Mine reflects the fact that I live in the midwest and I love to bowl. ;D

That's what I love about this forum. We all seem to have a sense of humor.

Knight is what I am by name.
I am a (old) east coast surfer, it would make sense to me that a lot of guitarist were once surfers.
-
My wife and I have the same initials: m.a.d. Hence madx2 (x=times)
-
Maybe I just like the Cindy inlay. ;D
While I do love the inlay, mine is simply my name. Guess I should have been a little more creative when selecting a user name--lol. ;)
-
cotten happens to be my name. I also play a 1995 Cotten 612c, that I like to call my own Taylor Signature Model.

I was joining a well known online auction site and needed to create a username; one of their suggestions for creating a username, was to use the name of the place you lived and a favourite animal. At the time I was working in the Shetland Islands, at a base called Royal Air Force Saxa Vord, and I like cats; so the name Saxacat was born.
Very boring really ::)
-
This is an interesting thread! :)
-
nomen truncation (the method; not what the name actually means, part of which is chieftain)
-
Yes, and I am a male die hard Martin fan too!
Me too. "Game of Thrones" is a fantastic series. Been reading 'em since the 90's. 8)
edit> First read "Sandkings" in '78.
-
I was a Firefighter for 32 years and we had TLs (Turntable Ladders) made by Magirus, which sprang to mind years ago when I joined my first forum.
-
Mine is pretty straightforward, I like to play guitar and I fly for a living, so it combined two passions. Used to always bring a Taylor on the road but now I use carbon fiber for that for its durability. Still love to come home to my Taylor's though.
-

Dave: I don't know whether it occurred to you, but your handle could also be interpreted as being a 'worried' flyer... ;)
I guess now that I've chimed in I'll have to own up to having one of the most boring forum names out there: purely a concatenation of the first syllables of my first and last names, plus part of a number that's relevant to me.
-
plus part of a number that's relevant to me.
If I recall correctly when you joined the forum, that same number is relevant to me too, for the same reason. ;)

A nod to Nashville from the Garden State. We're high strung here too.

Yeah, didn't think you were the cornerback who used to play for the Patriots. 8)
-
Fun topic! ;D my username = my initials plus pilot as I've always loved to fly. I'm not a pilot but I've used this name for a number of things.
-
that guy, this guy, taylor guy. take your pick I don't know myself.

16 years ago my wife and I moved from the Chicago suburbs to rural northwestern Illinois. She has always loved horses and grew up with them by working at a dude ranch in junior high, high school and college. She converted me into a cowboy and we now have 4 horses and 2 mini donkeys in our backyard.
I cannot claim to be a real cowboy, but I more than play one on TV as evidenced by many pairs of cowboy boots that may or may not have horse poop on them. Several years after moving, I picked up my old Yamaha guitar after 20 plus years of not playing. So my name represents two of my favorite hobbies.
-
Just the town I live in.. plus my first name! Small coastal town between San Francisco and Santa Cruz (central california)
-
Because I am not a typist and was in a hurry I forgot the "ve". Should've been DaveKell. Same name I use on a number of forums. A run on shortening of real name Dave Kellems. My fav screen name I use is Arlo Kalon on a sign business forum where I am a venerated elder. It comes from a sign supplier called Arlon by Calon. Get it how I changed that?
-
definition for my name... You can create, like Frankenstein, so many jibs, riffs and toons with a guitar. Taylor is just the epic ad-on. 8)
-
mine is the name of my former dog with his year of birth (1999) and the 14 is the year I got my current dog you see in the avatar photo on the left. Besides I was desperate and just about ran out of user names on all the websites I frequently go to that require a username. :o :o
-
My initials are SS hence I am the SMan. Yeah not too clever I agree.
-
Mine's a reference to the best band that ever existed... Stereolab.
-
Early 2000's Disney made a movie called "Holes". The main character was Stanley Yelnats III. My first name is Stanley...people at my work sometimes say "redrum yelnats" :o

When America-on-line, known lto many as AOL, started back in the 1980's they asked for a "screen name" when you joined. Prodigy back then, another online provider, assigned some whacky number for you to log on like R976249765@prodigy. A screen name was something new...
At the time, I was restoring vintage American motorcycles and my own ride was a 1947 Harley Davidson knucklehead. There were flatheads, knuckleheads, panheads, shovelheads etc. These were usually shortened to flatly, knuckle, pan, and shovel.
I could think of nothing else. To this day... if you see knuckle47 ANYWHERE, it's me!
-
Mine is my Air Force call sign.
-
My nickname acquired at a young age. Named a Jr and grew up two doors from two more Dales. My father made things less confusing. I liked it :)
-
Thats my teenage nickname...Which means in french The Arthur. I found it back in the AOL forum days where a lot of obvious pseudos were already take. We had to be original !!!
-
my name is Brian....when me and my friends played pickup basketball...i was automatic from 15' on the baseline....hence being money...morphed into them all calling me bmoney
i also then played professional paintball...and the nickname stuck as well...so i am known not as brian in the paintball circuit...but merely bmoney

Dave, if you go to your profile page, you should be able to at least change the forum name that is displayed to all of us. It looks like your sign in name wouldn't be able to be changed though. You should be able to access it from this link:

My nickname in college was Buck, short for Buckaroo. I was a cowboy, and there weren't very many where i went to school.
Later, when email evolved, I needed an addy. There were already a few hundred thousand "Buckaroos" in various forms where i did email.
I spelled it phonetically...I think I'm the only one.

For a few years now, I've been writing songs based on fantasy books/themes that also reflect Christian themes. It's admittedly a weird niche and when I was trying to think about how to describe it I figured the concept of Deeper Magic in the Chronicles of Narnia more or less covered it. So I think of "Deeper Magic Music" as sort of the theme/description of the songs I like to write.

d18d28: My oldest good guitars (since I gave my Guild D25 to my son.)

First initial and middle name, not very creative, but that describes some of my days, work in a juvenile justice facility.
-
I can virtually see the truth.

Mark is my first name, and Stone is my last.

Jeff is my first name. The '_'s are used to make it unique!

Lol -- Is almost is an alias. The name "Mark Stone" is so common that an internet search produces dozens of us. The most famous of us is a hockey player from Canada. I can use my real name and remain anonymous if I chose to 8)

HOF stands for hall of fame. I live in Canton, Ohio, home of the NFL hall of fame.
dad because I'm a proud father of two boys (not really boys now - both in college - oldest graduates next month)
-
When I'm not playing a Taylor guitar my other passion is fell running (a fell is "A hill or stretch of high moorland, especially in northern England" - Oxford English dictionary). Up until a couple of years ago I used to spend a lot of time in charge of an Intensive Care Unit but that was too boring for a username!
-
My user name, King of Swirl, is from church. We have one main worship director and two other worship leaders, and the three of them rotate Sundays. Our director usually picks songs from groups like Hillsong, Bethel, etc. A lot of that music, if you're unfamiliar with it, features electric guitar parts with very wet, ambient sounds--lots of delay and spacey reverb. My pedalboard has Strymon Big Sky, Blue Sky, Timeline and Mobius in order to deliver those sounds. (On some days, if the keyboardist is out, I can fake the pads.) The Disaster Area controllers and loop switchers are great, btw.
She calls those sounds "swirly sounds." Eventually someone called me the King of Swirl.
So there you go.
-
Wickedwahine is my screen name. Wahine means woman in Hawaiian, and I spend about 20% of the year there. Nope, I am not wealthy at all, but my mom has five timeshares on Kauai and a few weeks a year on Oahu as well. Since I am an only child that works from home, and she is single, she takes me with her each time she goes.
As a result of having spent most of my life going there so much, I love all things Hawaiian, playing ukulele, doing hula, their food, etc.
The wicked is because I used to play rec league softball for a team called the Wicked Women. :)
-
Right now, my name indicates one of the styles of music I play. Old-time stringband music. It had previously been the name of my Scandinavian music band. When that ended, didn't want to be reminded of it anymore.
Interestingly enough, I'm still playing Scandinavian music, just with different folks.
-
My name is Bill and I'm a Bassist (but slowly becoming an acoustic guitarist) :P
-
Mine is pretty simple! I'm from Kansas and play a mean Banjo!! :D
-
My name is James, and the 214ce was my first Taylor

Since I was 7 I knew what I wanted to do for a living and that is to be a Cabinetmaker.
Beautiful wood gets me going and I love to make things so, I'm my happiest when I'm out in our fully equipped home cabinet shop.
It has rubbed off on my wife too so we're having a great time during our retirement.
I made this dresser for my wife recently. It's made of Canary wood, Figured Walnut and Figured Pacific Coast Maple.
The 3 drawer boxes are made of Sapele with some left over 1/4 Teak plywood for the bottoms.
I'll spend a lot of time at the lumber yard going through almost every board ( you're allowed to pick) trying to find that just right board.
The last picture is my wife's Figured Pacific Coast Maple & Sapele sewing box that won first place at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup.
I'm very proud of her.
I love how Taylor picked out the Ovangkol for my custom 12 fret, excellent job.
I found out it also goes by the name of Shedua and bought several beautiful boards for a future project.
This is why I go as Woodnut. :D Danny
-
Danny, you do such beautiful work! I now have a little piece if it. ;)
-
Beautiful work Danny!
-
Thanks you both :D. Sorry it took me so long to respond as I didn't get a notification.
I just discovered a few minutes ago that there's a faint white arrow, top right of the page, that drops down to reveal my icon and "Show unread posts since last visit".
It had disappeared a couple years ago and couldn't figure out why.
Now I can check this forum more often :) Danny
-
My UTGF name is self explanatory as I just recently turned 73, my fingers still work pretty good and keep trying to learn guitar!
-
I'm a professional photographer.
Thankfully, it's still a hobby that I enjoy, as well...
-
Back when I was a professional worship leader I birthed sacred ground music - hence ‘sacred ground’. Now that I’m a senior pastor with a larger staff, I look back on those simple years of playing guitar for a living...
-
Of course I didn't read all of the answers. Sorry if I missed a few gems. I am George. And I remember commenting a long time ago that I was amazed to get such a username when I joined...
-
... I am George...
I am Groot... (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_bJZGbSI1s) ;)

My name is a reflection of my former life as an avid brass player (tromBONE, EUPHonium, bariTONE). Almost took the plunge for a career as an orchestral trombonist but my senior year of high school, upon making all state (last chair), I realized how much of a gap there was between me and the top players. Back in the 80s there were a dozen orchestras where you could earn a full time salary as a musician (close to half that now), and I didn't like my odds given how much better these other players were than me. I decided on my fall back option, and took a career in science. After I got a full time job, I resumed my brass playing with a vengeance. Until my kid started taking lessons after my aunt gave him her old nylon string classical. Being able to read music, etc. I watched his lessons carefully to help him, and I decided one afternoon to try it myself and I fell in love with it in no time. Discovered Taylors when I took him to get his guitar restrung (pretty sure they still had gut strings on them - yech!) and went into the acoustic room and I just loved all of the big Taylors, Martins, and Gibsons.
-
Apparently my imagination is very bad :P This is my real name and surname, I do not like to hide behind other names and photos.
-
I was the owner / webmaster / sole artist of now defunct sacred ground music. It seemed like a good idea at the time and was a decent tax write off!
-
Taylor224, guessing around here it will be pretty self explanatory...
