814ce V class with a cedar top - this guitar intrigues me
« on: May 29, 2019, 11:40:03 AM »
https://wildwoodguitars.com/product/1103149050/814ce-wildwood-special-v-class-celebration/?cat_id=32

Saw this guitar at  my  favorite  non-local,  on-line  guitar shop. Never heard of an 800 series with a cedar top. I am a strummer, with only one finger picking song in my repertoire (Blackbird), but I  vary my strumming  attack from light to aggressive  depending on the song I am playing/singing. I have heard cedar is best for finger picking , but think it could hold up with a light to moderate strumming without being over-driven.

And then there is the fact that I already have an 816 in my arsenal. But, I think the cedar would make it a completely  different guitar.

Also, take a look at the  fret board. It's  on fire!!! I love it!!! I know I have seen some of you with recent purchases (812 dlxs mostly, I think)   that have a similar  fret boards and I have to admit that I am jealous of you.  It seems Taylor reserves these variegated fret boards for the 800 series.  Lesser series ( 200 dlx, 300) are getting variegated  head stocks.

Anyway, somebody buy this so I am no longer tempted.

Moderators:  this may be more appropriately located in the "Taylor Acoustic and Electric Guitars" section , as it is not specifically calling for a buy , sell or trade.  My apologies. Please relocate or delete as you deem necessary.

That's beautiful, it would add a nice new sound to your collection. With light to moderate strumming, I don't think you would overdrive the cedar top. Taylor does cedar very well. I think you need this!  ;)

1. I love cedar/rw ...LOVE it!  I honestly do not think you can go wrong with a Taylor cedar/rw combo, seriously.
2. I am not a fan of "streaked ebony" boards, but this particular fretboard is beautiful.
3. So whatcha waiting for? ;)

Top notch peg head.  Overall I love the cedar/rosewood combo.

Awe, man ... You guys are not helping... I really thought I was cured of GAS with the several Taylors I have purchased over the last few years, but this one is really gnawing at me... now even more so with the expression of love for cedar/rosewood coming from this enabler forum. Unfortunately, I don't think I can justify another purchase as I already own more than I thought I ever would. Ugh, I guess I should have stayed off my favorite guitar site. Guess how many times I have clicked on the link above? ...a bunch

While it is not my favorite pairing with cedar (that would be black walnut for me), I've always thought that cedar/rosewood guitars (especially grand auditoriums ) sound lush and beautiful.

I hope it all works out for you!

My biggest concern would be the V Class bracing. Unless you’ve already tried and preferred it, I wouldn’t take the risk based on your experience with your 816, presuming your 816 is Advanced Performance.

I note Wildwood also has a V Class 814 with Lutz over Rosewood. I previously played and loved the 714 Lutz Rosewood with Advanced Performance bracing and loved it, but couldn’t stand the later nasally midrange tone of the V Class 714.

It looks like they also have an adi top 814ce. I think it's cool that Wildwood had these variations made.
