Hi All,
I know I don't post a ton, but today I contacted Mass Street Music in Lawrence, KS and placed an order for the 324 (Hog top, Tasmanian Blackwood B/S) no electronics. I can't wait! I ended up doing "modify a model" and ordered it with 1 11/16th nut width.
I went to a "Find Your Fit" event there and was looking for a warmer sounding Taylor. Some of you may not know, but when this forum was started I had a purchased a new 2011 GS8e. It was my first quality guitar and I loved it. Over time, I noticed that the 1 3/4 nut width started to hurt my hand as I have smaller hands. At the time, I didn't know that there was a "modify a model" etc. I ended up selling it and since then had been "Taylor-less."
Well earlier this month I had taken my other guitar to Mass Street Music and they did a great setup on my current guitar. The staff were so knowledgeable and friendly. At the same time they let me know that a "Find Your Fit" was coming into town the next week.
I went and tried a number of Taylors including the new revamped 600 series, the all hog 500 series and also tried a Sinker BTO 12 fret. But the one guitar that really spoke to me was the 324.
With the GS8e that I had previously the bass was great and the trebles were super bright and I did notice that the Sitka/EIR did have that typical "scoop" in the midrange area.
This 324 was the most even sounding Taylor that I've played to date. The bass was there, the mids were super solid and the trebles weren't as "treble-ly" as the GS8 which was nice. The 324 sounded so "warm" to my ears.
Appointment wise the 324 doesn't have a lot of bling but that's ok, given the terrific sound. That Tasmanian blackwood can BOOM! Since it's a modify a model it should come in sometime in January.
That's it! Now let the waiting game begin!
PS, if you live in MO, or KS, do yourself a favor and go run by Mass Street Music! Their staff is the best!
