mini gs plays terrible
« on: July 28, 2015, 03:05:41 PM »
hi guys i think i have to take my mini gs to the shop tomorrow the actions so bad you could drive a truck under the strings lol. bit of a downer really as it will take nearly a day of my time as i live quite far from the shop but i hope they can sort it as i love the guitar but it feels like playing a £XX guitar which isn't what you hope for from a taylor.

hope they can sort it would hate to let this one go but its pretty un playable as it stands

No problem. I had a setup done on one of my Mini's recently (action was high) and it's perfect once again. If you have a trusty Taylor tech, they'll get you back in business.

Just remember that there is not such thing as a "correct" setup, only one that suits each individual player.

The key is taking it to a good tech that will a) listen to you and setup the guitar to your playing style and is b) a Taylor-approved tech who will have the appropriate set of shims (and knowledge) to optimize your neck angle.

Yes, many guitar techs can do set ups which usually means adjusting the saddle height and a truss rod adjustments, but Taylor guitars use shims to adjust the neck. They can also do truss rod and saddle adjustments if needed, but to do a set up correctly on a Taylor, take the guitar to a Taylor tech. Taylor necks are built differently to allow quick neck resets that can't be done on most guitars built by other manufacturers.
