Taylor Suede strap.
« on: April 13, 2017, 05:26:50 PM »
This is a dumb question for a 43-year guitar veteran....

My new 310e also came with the custom Taylor Chocolate Suede strap.  I have never had a strap of this design.  So I assume that it should be rigged with thicker part and the "Taylor" logo to the front and the thin adjustable part of the strap to the base end of the guitar?

Is this correct?  It is hard to see how it fits when I'm wearing it.... ::)

I agree, but wanted to add that I really like these straps. They're just the right balance of strength, comfort, flexibility (mine snuggles neatly in the cutaway pocket of my 914), and price, especially since I bought mine used. They guy I bought it from said he couldn't use it any more, since he had sold his Taylor. Gave me a great deal! There have been times when someone would comment, asking "Why are you wearing a Taylor strap when you're not playing a Taylor?" My reply, "Because it's a nice strap," has been met with everything from understanding to derision. One fellow even suggested that I flip it over so the logo wouldn't show. I guess that would work, but I don't see the need. It's a nice strap so I use it, whether playing a Taylor or not.

Thanks for your helpful responses.  I figured I had it correctly, but it is the first time for this style of strap.

I DO love the strap, by the way.
It is beautiful.  The Taylor Logo is sharp.
It is wide enough to carry the load without hurting my shoulder.
It isn't slick, so it stays on my shoulder where it should without sliding around.
(I had another guitar slide off my shoulder and fall.  It put a BIG ding on my brother's Yamaha.  Boy, did I feel rotten!)

My Next Dumb Question....

What is the recommendation when putting my guitar in it's case...?

1) Take the strap off and roll it up in my gig bag?
or
2) Leave it attached at the base of the guitar, but take it off the neck, and the lay it along the neck on top of the strings?

3) another option?

It won't fit underneath the guitar, like my old strap did for my Alvarez.  It raises the guitar off the bottom of the case too much and lifts the neck out of the cradle, which reduces the protection value of the beautiful hardshell case.

I currently have been laying it on top, and curling the neck-end of the strap over the top of the neck and back towards the storage compartment.  It seems to fit this way, and may even protect the strings.  But will the strap stress or mar the guitar in any way?

I don't really like the idea of totally removing it over and over, fearing that it will prematurely wear out the mounting holes in the strap.

Any professional suggestions?
I still can hardly believe I have gotten a guitar this nice, and I want to protect it as best I can!

I doubt you would wear out the strap holes, but if you did you can buy strap retainers really cheap. Plus which cost more to replace the guitar or the strap? Now you have something new to worry about. ;)

I remove my straps completely (I use Levy's Cotton Straps  - they're the most comfortable and durable for me)  and store them in the compartment under the neck rest or in the front pouch of a soft case. You shouldn't worry about the strap holes wearing out - they're quite durable.
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

I always take mine off and store it in the compartment under the neck
