Wood & Steel
« on: October 20, 2016, 12:19:37 AM »
Great day today.  In the mail came volume 86.  Yes my Fall issue came.  It must be the earliest I have received it.  How about everybody else, have you received yours yet?

Wow.  Limited Edition Showcase in this issue.

Hmmm, Taylor or USPS is probably servicing the west cost before the middle states and then us poor folks on the east cost are last in line  :(

My playing isn't worthy of that koa confection but ... jaw drop ... I'm not sure I've ever seen such beautiful fretboard inlay. Even my hubby said "Have you seen this?!" It is the best thing I have received in the mail in a long time!

not sure exactly when mine hit the mailbox, but i got
a chance to look at it yesterday (it's tomorrow now) -
416ceFLTD cedar/walnut = big time GAS :o

the grand orchestras will be available with a florentine cutaway,
so i reckon i'll be on the lookout, some time or other, for a 418ce-r

In 2006 they came out with a Sitka/walnut combination.  It was a Fall Ltd.  I had it in a 414e. The Sitka/Walnut pairing was pretty good but it had a little to much in the high end.  That was easily compensated with different strings, and I like the guitar.  In 2006 it had a satin finish, this year it is finish with gloss.  Fast forward to 2016 and now a pairing with Cedar/Walnut and I think I could really love this guitar.

I'm also a walnut lover. I 've got two at home - a cedar/black walnut GA and an Adi/claro walnut GA.  They are both tonally stellar, and the walnut is so pretty in its natural finish - lots of color/shade variation, browns, reds and even iridescent grays besides the occasional sap wood streaks. Truly magical guitars!

Ooooooo....walnut. I have 5 walnut dulcimers and 2 walnut native American flutes. I guess I've expressed my love for walnut with other instruments.

Nice offering by Taylor.

Got my W&S yesterday. Got it all read already, as I'm nursing a pinched nerve in my back. Feel lazy, but at least I got a good read!  ;)
