Elementary help needed on technology
« on: November 03, 2017, 07:55:10 PM »
Patience please: I not up to date on tech. Don't even understand bluetooth.
I have recorded some music on my tablet to a "Voice recorder" app
Now I would like to be able to transfer these recordings to an object I can give my brother for a long trip
Emails get lost.. He mention to me he listen to his computer on something he plugged into a UCB ? Port
Is that something I can transfer to then give him

Sorry, but I really am this ignorant about this stuff.

I think you mean a USB port.  I'm not super savvy about formats, but you'll probably need to supply him the your recordings on a memory stick in a file format like .MP3.  That's probably all gibberish to you, but if you do a web search for information using those key words it might give you more helpful information.  Good luck!

My music seems to be stored as .mp3 on my tablet. Can I buy a memory stick, transfer my music to stick from my tablet. Then give the memory stick to my brother who can place in his cars' USB port and hear my music?

.MP3 is the standard music file format, which the radio unit in every late-model vehicle should decode by default.  And most vehicles use a USB interface for connecting an external music device.  So putting your music files on any USB storage device (like a memory stick) should allow your brother to listen to them without any additional effort on his part than plugging the memory stick into his vehicle.

depends what kind of tablet you have.

bluetooth is just a wireless communication standard, but it’s low bandwidth and if you used your tablet to record, it’s probably low bit rate, so it will sound awful over bluetooth bc bluetooth uses compression to send data

also depends on what car your brother has

an option would be to transfer the files from your tablet onto a computer, then create a CD (or a mp3 disc) for your brother

let us know some more info and we can provide some specific guidance for you. good luck!

I have no laptop, got tired of buying laptops then getting viruses. Never have that problem with tablets.

The memory sticks: how many minutes will they store, sure they come in different sizes. Think I might buy one and see how they work.

Can you index songs in different order etc.. on the memory stick.
Thanks for information

... The memory sticks: how many minutes will they store, sure they come in different sizes. Think I might buy one and see how they work...

In rough terms it seems to be about 1 MB per minute of CD-quality music (.MP3 format).  So a readily-available 16 GB memory stick will hold something like 240-260 hours of music.

... Can you index songs in different order etc.. on the memory stick...

I think it's possible; generally the files will be played in order (ether numeric or alphabetic) based on the file name.  If you create folders on the memory stick, you can group files for playback (e.g., by album name).  But .MP3 files on a memory stick is about as basic as it gets from the standpoint of playing music files on a car radio system; it's not as sophisticated a storage device as, say, an iPod, which will interact with the radio's playback software to some degree to automatically play albums, playlists, etc.
