Local Jams....
« on: October 09, 2017, 10:16:44 PM »
Of course as I rethink this ....what's local?

I am wondering how to find a source of other guitar guys who might enjoy sitting down and just hashing out a few hours occasionally.  Besides running into a music store, does anyone know of a website that might list something along these lines?

i also know that the kind of music will dictate who wants to.  I am no longer interested in effects pedals, stacked amplifiers and super slinky type string benders...if you know what I mean (sorry to those under thirty) I'm double that mark so soft and mellow is more my type

You could try www.meetup.com - -> do a search for guitar in the music section.

I have no experience with this site - only saw it mentioned at the AGF website.

That meetup.com site really puts you right in there.  There's a bunch of groups for a ton of different interests.  I'm waiting a bit before jumping in but if I get anywhere, I'll post the outcomes

Is there a Bluegrass/Old Time/Jazz/"whatever" association nearby?  I don't know where you are and what type of music jam you're looking for but its been my experience that those local associations are either good for getting together or at least making friends and then forming smaller jams.  I went to an association jam one time when I was a newbie and met a guy who has jams at his house...he invited me into the group and 4 years later we all still get together weekly and play and have fun.

Bingo. Meetup worked for me too. I live in L.A., so there are a ton of jams in town. Smaller locales maybe less successful.

Bandmix.  You can list free, but the subscription is what allows one to contact others.  Still, it may be worth checking it out.

Try your local Craigslist under "Community" and "musicians".  It's mostly "looking for bass player for heavy metal band" type listings.  Just post what are are looking for.....   I browse from time to time out of curiosity, but my music plate is full already.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby
