While i have a distinct Martin side, I love my Taylors!
This is my first posting ever to any forum. I'm glad it's this one as I find a lot of kindred spirits here. I found this forum by search for the topic "who has the oldest Taylor Guitar". I've been in recent communication with Bob Taylor and now believe that to be me or possible one other. Bob Taylor has graciously modified his website to now read: "The two oldest verified serial numbers are 00109 and 10109. Record keeping in the early days was spotty and it's uncertain which guitar is actually the first one, but these two were built within the first few months of Taylor Guitars production." I own S/N 00109, a beautiful maple jumbo Bob himself made for me in early 1975 in their newly purchased shop in Lemon Grove.I'm going to post more on the unique guitar and the story about my history with Bob and Kurt and the making of the first Taylor. It's also my hope that whomever has S/N 10109 reads this forum and comes forth with his or her own story. Perhaps we can help Bob's spotty record keeping and solve once and for all the question of "who has the oldest Taylor"?
Suzie,Thank you for your gracious thoughts. I had always though I would pass this beautiful guitar down to our son Sean. After 9/11 our son felt strongly about becoming a U.S. Marine and went on to serve his country in faraway Iraq. We lost our only Son in northern Iraq and miss him so very much. Our daughter Melissa will now keep this instrument safe for one of my grandchildren to enjoy. The circle of life goes on and the gift of music will always be a precious one.
