I had a long-term plan to save up for a 814ce, but since I already have an 810e, I wasn't at all sure than such a move wouldn't be 800-series overkill. But it gave me a pleasant something to ponder about, you know? And it gave me a semi-rational reason to keep returning to the guitar shop with a vaguely purposeful aim of becoming thoroughly familiar with the differences between the 810 and the 814.
Anyway, there came a day, a few weeks ago, when I started to wonder whether I couldn't find some of the attributes of the 814 among the various models in the 200 DLX series and save a lot of money. I know - stupidly optimistic, but the sort of game that's fun to play in a guitar shop. Well, there in the shop was a 214ce-QM DLX Special Edition. Of course it is nothing like an 814, but it may be, with all that quilted maple, the most beautiful guitar I've ever held and played. And, glory upon glories, it had a tone that was nothing at all like any of my other guitars.
Long story short: I bought it, and the pipedream of owning an 814ce has receded far enough to be lost in future mist. Instead, I now have this to play with:
